SPEECH BY LEE LAM THYE AT A CHEQUE PRESENTATION CEREMONY FOR REPAIR AND UPGRADING WORKS OF HYDROTHERAPY POOL OF RUMAH AMAL CHESHIRE SELANGOR

We are here today to witness the reopening of Rumah Amal Cheshire Selangor’s hydrotherapy pool which has been closed for the past 20 months (since Dec 2006) for repairs.

The pool at Rumah Amal Cheshire Selangor has seen many changes over the years since the early 1980s, but its function has remained mainly as a hydrotherapy pool for residents of the home.

I am glad to see that over the years many have benefitted from its use but this has also taken a toll on the wear and tear of the pool.

When S P Setia Foundation was approached to contribute to the repairs and upgrading of the pool, we did not hesitate to respond as the Foundation has always had an interest in providing assistance to the disabled.

S P Setia Foundation has donated towards a number of other disabled societies in the past. These include:
1. D to D Services – Donation of 5 units of power wheelchairs. It costs RM49,000.
2. Persatuan Dyslexia Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur – Sponsor 10 under privileged kids for 5 months training costing RM22,500.
3. Persatuan Mobiliti Selangor & KL – Hydraulic lift for van costing RM17,000.

We identified Eureka Pools Sdn Bhd to carry out the repair and upgrading works which include relaying the concrete bricks, repairing the leakages and the construction of new pool steps and pool deck, to name a few.

Through S P Setia Bhd, we also managed to get Stanford Door Marketing to sponsor a new door for the pool’s pump room.

On behalf of the Foundation, I would like to record our thanks to these two companies who have rendered us assistance.

The benefits of hydrotherapy have been recognized for thousands of years as water is an excellent base for exercise. It provides an anti-stress environment for movement and gentle water exercises use the water’s resistance to build muscle strength and flexibility.

I am pleased to note that the Foundation’s contribution of RM25,000 towards repairs and upgrading of the pool has now enabled Rumah Amal Cheshire Selangor to open the pool to eight community based rehabilitation centres in Gombak who will be using the pool for hydrotherapy sessions for children with disabilities.

Your efforts in constantly continuing to create opportunities for persons with disabilities towards an independent life must be lauded.

I sincerely hope that the Foundation’s small contribution towards the repairs and upgrading works of the pool will allow Rumah Amal Cheshire Selangor to continue with its noble mission for many years to come.

Thank you.
